Tell us about your current work.I am currently exploring the concept of Pleasure V.S Pain through a collection of portrait photographs. Influenced by Andy Warhol's Polaroid Collection and Mario Testino's lighting designs, I am hoping to create several framed works using a number of people to investigate their reaction/s to pleasure and pain. How would you describe your style in 3 words.Fine, detailed, and messy. Who or what inspires you most in your work?I guess it really depends on what work I'm doing. But for the most part, I am often inspired by famous people, TV Shows, Movies, famous artists e.g. Andy Warhol. I also just find inspiration from photos I find on Instagram or Tumblr. I tend to search for things on social media a lot and keep a folder in my photos of things I find that I save and keep for later when I want something new. | When do you first remember loving art?I remember loving art right from primary school. Art was one of my favourite classes, and I had a nice teacher, and that always makes it enjoyable too. My mum also has influenced me a lot. She is an artist, and I've grown up painting, sewing, making random things out of scrap material or spare canvas'. Ive always loved art. What is your most memorable art project? My most memorable art project I think would have to be my most recent work that I finished last term centring around Misery and using Leonardo DiCaprio as my subject. I had a lot of fun experimenting with lots of different mediums and just mucking around what this and that would look like on a page. Misery, Leonardo DiCaprio, watercolour on paper What, if anything, is the most challenging part of being an artist? The most challenging part of VCE Studio Art in particular I think is having to annotate and judge and critique not only your own artwork, but others too. I find it difficult sometimes to think of a reason why an artist would make something, but what I've learnt is, is that you can make up anything about why the artist chose to do it a certain way, as long as you can back it up! |
